We are updating like a motherfucker here!  We have a new interview up from Gina Ranalli. She is a bad ass Bizarro author, and one of the contributers to The Vault.  You can check the interview out in our Media or Family section, for she is both Media and Family.

October 10th, 2007

It is really important to tell you that we have updated The Cause section for The Vault of Punk Horror.  Please take a few to go over there and read about the very serious need that Alaska’s women face, and a group that is doing something about it.

October 6th, 2007

Just a few quick things...first just wanted to show you a quick teaser of The Vault of Punk Horror’s cover.  We are working on getting the final art in (hence the big questin mark) but we thought you might want to see what the rest will look like...

We’re thinking it is looking pretty cool.

We have an interview with Vault author Gina Ranalli coming out this weekend, so if you want to be one of the first to read it, then be sure to sign up for the mailing list.  It doesn’t take but two seconds, and the only spam we send out is our own.

Then Finally we have a new project going on the site, The Online Short Story Review.  Basically it is a section of reviews for shortstories that you can find online.  There is a lot of good stuff out there that probably isn’t getting read because no one knows about it. Go and check out the reviews, it is a small selection so far but it is growing almost daily.

October 1st, 2007

Just a few things that we want to let you know about.

First! Only 31 days until the release of The Vault of Punk Horror!  This project has been in the works for almost four years now and it is going to be amazing. With fiction from John Shirley, Lisa Morton, Jeremy Robert Johnson and way more this book is looking to be pretty fantastic. And don’t forget the introduction from Dee Snyder!

To “celebrate” we are pumping out some interviews with the authors, but first of, and interview withthe Editors, with questions asked by Paul Stuart and Cody Goodfellow!  So go check that out.

Second, we have added a new feature to the PH website. We are starting to do short reviews of short fiction that is avaliable online. So go and check it out, and if you have some short fiction you would like reviewed check out our Submission Guidelines.

Finally, we will have some big announcements about future projects, including the revamped Gutter Limits and Screams, as well as what we hope are some really amazing chapbooks. So stay tuned to the PH website, and join the mailing list ASAP!

September 25th, 2007

New author read fiction from Punk Horror Press Co Founder Gabriel LLanas, in the media section. Coming very soon, preorders for The Vault, a revamped version of The Gutter Limits, an interview with the editors of the The Vault, and new project announcements.  So keep your ear to the ground, or sign up for the mailing list now.

August 15th, 2007

Normally we wait a week or so before we post the interview that was sent to the mailing list on the site.  But since it has been quite a while since we have done an update, we wanted to get this next interview to you right away.

So go check out the awesome interview with Bizarro author Jeremy Robert Johnson.  Up now!

August 14th, 2007

Just wanted to take a few minutes to talk about Punk Horror Press and specifically about the Vault of Punk Horror Anthology. Another delay, we are having to delay the release of the book until Halloween. The project has attracted many fantastic horror authors many of which also have long standing careers in punk rock and hardcore. A few Bram Stoker award winners and several nominees, they have all volunteered their fiction and we have volunteered countless hours to finish this project because it is a benefit for victims of domestic violence in Alaska the state with the worst problems of DV in the U.S.

Did I mention the introduction was written Dee Snyder? Pretty cool.  And because of that we want to make sure that the project gets done right.

We had planned to have it released by the end of this month, but as always with projects like this we have been delayed. This month was stupid time for us to plan this. For one thing David was attempting to move to another country this month for the first time in his life. Paul (P.G.) Stuart is on a long bike trip from Portland Or. To Eugene, they are stopping along the way to check out sustainable habitats. Rick has been delayed by life from working on the cover and Gabriel has three kids so he is always busy, busy being super-dad, and on top of that as our resident tech geek was face with his ultimate nightmare.  The super computer crash. Nothing was lost but it put us way to behind the gun to get this done right.

With that said, we are hoping to get going again soon. We have a cool interviews coming up with Johnny Strike, Jeremy Robert Johnson (later in this e-mail as a matter of fact) and an interview Cody Goodfellow and Paul did with Gabriel and David. They will be in the E-newsletter and then on the Punk Horror website. We are also ready to release the table of contents (also featured in this e-mail).

The computer problems harmed the output of the podcast as well, so if you are a fan of those, rest assured that we will have that all up and running again shortly.  New episodes of Author Read Fiction and The Punk and The Pastor are coming soon, as well as some bonus material that you will hopefully really enjoy. On top of that we are working on bringing you some more of all the other free crap that hopefully you are coming to expect from PH.

Bless John Skipp for taking thirteen years to finish Mondo Zombie because it makes us look not so bad. Ha-ha!

Heavy metal icon writes the introduction to the Vault of Punk Horror!

Twisted Sister front man Dee Snyder to write the introduction to a new groundbreaking Horror Fiction charity anthology

Who: Punk Horror Press

When: Release Date August 31st

For more information: www.punkhorror.com

After four years in the making Punk Horror Press is set to release its ground breaking horror fiction anthology The Vault of Punk Horror on August 31, 2007. The trade paperback edition will feature an introduction by heavy metal icon Dee Synder as well as fifteen stories by several award winning and nominated authors with proceeds benefiting the Alaskan Women’s Network. The AWN supports a variety of causes that center around women’s rights in one of the most dangerous places for women to live in the United States.

“Dee was excited by the cause and the line-up of fantastic authors. Underground favorites like newcomers Ryan C. Thomas and Cody Goodfellow turned in high quality stories along with Bram Stoker award wining short story authors Lisa Morton (Short Story “Test” – 2006) and John Shirley (Collection Black Butterflies – 1998) we are proud of the quality of this collection which cover to cover will create a unique experience.” Said Co-Editor David Agranoff.

When editors David Agranoff and Gabriel LLanas first started this project four years ago the concept was simple tales of horror fiction by punk authors set in the punk scene or featuring punk characters. “We wanted to break some stereotypes and give back to both the punk and horror scenes which have been positive outlet for both of our lives. We wanted stories of high literary quality at the same time. So unlike some anthologies that receive five hundred or more submissions we had to seek out authors and work with them to develop stories within the theme. In the end we had to pinch ourselves when we read the book first time, all the way through, it turned out fantastic,” said Gabriel LLanas

Readers interested in getting taste for what is to come in the Vault of Punk Horror need only to visit the Punk horror website. “We have a variety of podcasts, interviews and various works by authors who will be appearing in The Vault. Our E-newsletter also contains news about the various authors and until August will feature interviews with the authors. The interviews with Vault contributers are turning out great. We have lots of musicians, screenwriters and activists in the book that reflect the diversity of the writers. We love that we have the author who practically invented the cyberpunk genre as well as first time authors.”

The Vault of Punk Horror will hit the streets August 31st

November 2006

November 21st, 2006

October was a big month for us.  We released David Agranoff’s new books Screams From a Dying World and though there were delays in the shipping they are all on their way to everyone who ordered them.

On top of that we released the first episodes of our podcast.  One The Punk and The Pastor is a movie review show featuring Gabriel LLanas and Stacey Campbell and it is a lot of fun. The other is a show of author read fiction, since David just released his book, we decided to run one of his stories first.

Which brings us to some news.

First we are begening to work in earnest on The Vault of Punk Horror.  We would still like to get a Spring 2007 release on it and we are pusing to get all of the stories in.  So far we have amazing work from John Shirley, Cody Goodfellow, Lisa Morton, Eric Turowski, Ryan C. Thomas, Gabriel Llanas, David Agranoff, and Paul Stuart.  We have stories in the works from several other authors so it looks like it is going to be a great anthology.

Second, we would love to have some of your author read fiction.  Unlike The Vault of Punk Horror we are looking for great horror or punk fiction, it doesn’t have to be both (that should make it a little easier on you authors out there) be sure to check out our submission guidelines in the Media section.

Keep an eye out every other Tuesday for a new episode of Punk Horror Podcasts

Animal Rights Activist, Turns Horror Author

For more than 13 years horror author David Agranoff has promoted Veganism, and animal rights. Now, with a short story collection, Screams From a Dying World, Agranoff hopes he can reach a whole new audience.  "To me there is no social justice fight that comes close to animal liberation, it's the production of meat, dairy and eggs that does more damage to the planet than any other industry.”

For this reason the benefits of his new release from Punk Horror Press will benefit Animal Acres, a farmed animal sanctuary.  Animal Acres works to promote compassionate living through its farmed animal rescue, refuge efforts, public education, outreach, and advocacy projects to prevent cruelty to farmed animals. Punk Horror will be giving a portion of the sales of Screams From a Dying World to the organization.

When asked how his activist beliefs affected his writing David said, "All six stories are horror fiction but the theme of environmental destruction and the horror it causes run through the book.  For vegans living in this world is like a daily horror show, we have to live with family and co-workers who eat flesh around us and talk about it tasting good. Here is collection of horror from an author that understands the real horror of our world."

Screams is available for preorder now and will be released on Halloween of 2006.

For more information on Animal Acres Visit:

www.animalacres.org

Also, this weekend we are releasing our first ever podcast.  “The Punk and the Pastor” is a horror movie review show, featuring Gabriel LLanas co-owner of Punk Horror and book reviewer for Dred Tales, and Stacy Campbell pastor at Christ Community Church in Greeley, CO.  Be sure to subscribe to the show.

And as always don’t forget about our message boards and mailing list. They are the best way to stay connected with Punk Horror and what we are doing.

Also got a great review from Apex Digest, where The Gutter Limits gets three and a half out of four alien heads.  You can read that on their web site and it is highly recomended that you pick up their fine publication.

July 4, 2006:

Well I have awesome news on all fronts.

First Screams From a Dying World is on track and will be released in October of this year (just in time for Halloween).  This will be another chapbook featuring the short fiction of David Agranoff.  This will be fantastic stuff! In an effort to continue being socially active, Screams will also be a benifit chapbook.  This time is will be benifiting Animal Acres.  Click the link to find out more.

The Gutter Limits is now available at  Blue Stocking Books in San Diego. If you are there besure to pick up your copy or at the very least tell them how much you love Booger. There will also be a signing and reading even there later this summer so keep an eye out for that.

Man there is a lot that has been going on. First off a quick update on the two new projects.

Screams from a Dying World.” David Agranoff’s chapbook of short fiction is still holding with a release date of October. He is currently deciding which stories he offically wants in the book, then he is going to edit and then we will be putting it all together.  This one will be cool as hell.

Are You Going To Eat That?”  The next collection from the Booger Murphy Collective is going to be pushed back to the Winter of this year.  It will be a collection of vegan recipes with stories on how Bogger found them.  This one is also one not to miss.

Speaking of The Gutter Limits there is some great news. Shocklines:  Your One Stop Shop For Horror, now stocks The Gutter Limits.  Not only are they stocking it, they have given it the “New Voices Guarantee,” which means if you buy it from them and totally hate it; they will refund your money. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet that is a good way to do it!

Big news for Punk Horror small press!

Find out some of the authors in the Vault of Punk Horror!

Gutter Limits chapbook Unleashed April 28!

Sign-up for Punk Horror mailing list and get Booger Murphy flash fiction monthly!

Big news at Punk Horror the brand spanking new small press founded by writers Gabriel Llanas and David Agranoff, Only a few short months after deciding that a press was the route they wanted to take the duo has lined up some horror heavyweights with punk rock histories to write for there flagship project, The Vault of Punk Horror charity Anthology.

The depiction of punk rockers in fiction tends to be one dimensional. Now, the editors of a ground breaking new anthology intend to bring authentic punk rock fiction to the genre they most love, traditional horror, Both editors consider horror fiction and punk rock the things they discovered in there childhood that led them on a positive path in there lives. This anthology will give us a chance to combine that love with giving something back not only to punk and horror but the world at large.

We have been able to sign on a number of award winning and acclaimed authors! John Shirley (Bram Stoker and International Horror Guild award winning author of Demons and screenwriter of The Crow), playwright and acclaimed short story author Lisa Morton, the critically acclaimed author of Radiant Dawn Cody Goodfellow, Christa Faust(author of popular Nightmare on Elm Street novel Dreamspawn), Jeremy Robert Johnson acclaimed flag bearer of the new Bizarro sub genre of horror fiction, these are just some of the very talented writers who have stepped up to support the important cause of fighting domestic violence in Alaska, the Vault is a charity project and Punk Horror hopes fans will support. Especially with the work of such fantastic authors who are donating their efforts. While still more stories and authors are coming on board Punk Horror is excited to finally let you know some of the good news. We will have more in the coming months as the Vault becomes our No.1 priority.

We are also Re-opening submissions on March 7th until June 1st. So if you have a horror tale that involves punks or a punk rock setting please drop us a line.

While we gear up for the Vault we are putting a chapbook called “The Gutter Limits” by underground punk rock legend Booger Murphy. While most of Murphy’s work has been confined photocoped zines this doesn’t diminish the quality of the work. The Gutter limits is 40 pages (with full color cover) of 23 ultra short flash style fiction tales which range from straight-horror, Bizarro to the blackest of humor, all with a dark tongue in cheek comic bent.

Stay tuned for details about “The Gutter Limits” release party to be held the last weekend of April in San Diego CA! Readings, signings and guest appreances by “Booger” and other Southern California authors an 100% free evening of entertainment and horror community. Vault of Punk Horror: Charity Anthology

Horror fiction for punks by punks!

Edited by Gabriel LLanas & David Agranoff

The depiction of punk rockers in fiction tends to one dimensional. Now, the editors of a ground breaking new anthology intend to bring authentic punk rock fiction to the genre they most love, traditional horror. David Agranoff the co-creator/editor of the project explains: "Both Gabriel and I consider horror fiction and punk rock the things we discovered in our childhood that led us on a positive path in our lives. This anthology will give us a chance to combine that love and to give something back not only to punk and horror but to do some good in the world at large."

"There is intense depth, power, and diversity behind both punk and horror that people outside of the two genres rarely see," Said Gabriel LLanas, "We are hoping that this anthology will give the general public the chance to see that depth within the two genres we love most."

With the goal of putting together a collection of horror tales focused on the punk and hardcore scenes the editing duo have a few goals in mind: first to be authentic. To someone involved in punk, a story written by someone who is not involved may be a good story, but the lack of punk knowledge can make the story feel corny. We want stories that really feel like a part of the punk scene. We may miss out on some great stories as a consequence, but we want to stay true to our roots. Second, to stay true to horror. None of those “I Know What You Did Last Summer" cookie cutter narratives. Punks and the punk scene offer a dizzying variety of challenges each of which can be embraced to work into the flow of a fantastic horror tale. No one wants to read a rehash, but with punks, that won’t happen!

Lastly, we want to give something to help people around us. Funds derived from the sale of the anthology will be donated to Anchorage Alaska's Take Back the Night 2006 -- Hold Anchorage Accountable! Committee. “Traditionally, allies and survivors gather to march, chanting slogans such as ‘Yes means yes, no means no, whatever we wear, wherever we go,’ showing a force against violence against womyn,” said Maggie Nettle, one of the organizers. “We dreamed, and now are implementing plans, for a day when we can walk through our streets without the constant threat of rape, battering, and stalking” Alaska’s rate of rape is 2.4 times higher than the national average; Alaska has six times the national average of reported child sexual abuse. “A public health crisis worldwide, Alaska’s violence against womyn has reached the acute epidemic stage.”

The editors are hard at work pulling together stories from famous writers in the horror genre who have a punk past and famous punks who like to write on the darkside of prose. "We are working to find some names that will help sell some books because the quintessence of this anthology is the fund raising aspect of it.”

Submissions will be open as of August 1. If you have a story you think will fit in this anthology, check back in July for our open submission guidelines" said Agranoff. “We will be looking for a record label or publishers to team on this project but we are committed to making this happen in the next year”.
